Words of Praise

I have had a wonderful first week. I have the opportunity to be a program called “ Parent Mentors” at my Daughters school. What is this program?

We, the parents, have the ability to be part of one classroom for a few hours a week and help the children learn a little more efficiently. Something we had learned during this first week of training is, ways to praise. Saying “Good Job” all of the time can be boring and almost fake. Here is the list that I was given:

  1. Well done
  2. Excellent
  3. I like the effort you put in
  4. Magnificent
  5. Good Concentration
  6. Marvelous
  7. You’re doing this well
  8. You’re improving greatly
  9. I knew you could do it
  10. I am proud of the way you are working
  11. I knew you could do it!
  12. You are learning quickly
  13. I like the way you tried multiple strategies on this problem
  14. You did a lot of work today
  15. You are really trying
  16. That is much better
  17. Please, continue you’re doing a great job
  18. Congratulations
  19. That’s correct
  20. Sensational
  21. You’re making great progress
  22. That’s the way you do it

At first, after reading all of the words, it seems sort of fake. I had actually had the opportunity to actually apply some new praise in my own situations and there was a difference. Even though some of these words seem obvious, we sometimes forget that there are other words we can use. It can also make someone’s day feel a whole lot better.
